A Tale of Two Dresses

Sometimes having a vintage shop is hard, because sometimes you have to put things that you want for yourself into the shop and sell it. And by sometimes, I mean all the time.  But there are definitely pieces that pull my heartstrings when they sell more than others!  So, back in 2012 I found the perfect red and green plaid dress and hemmed it into a babydoll.  I put it in the shop and it sold immediately, and I remember for a long time wishing I had kept it.  A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon the same dress in the thrift store, hemmed this one into a babydoll too, and ITS MINE!  Now me and a sweet customer in Hong Kong are dress twins.

Outfit Details
Dress - Vintage/ altered
Hat - Forever21
Boots- thrifted
Bow - sash from a dress

Sorry, maybe that wasn't a very good story, but you have to love some good thrifting karma!  I also took a tip from Tonya and "put a bow on it".  And while lately I have been leaning more towards more casual pants looks, I have to admit it was fun to throw a vintage dress and boots on again.  And speaking of vintage, if you have had an eye on anything in the shop, you should definitely head over and check it out again because I lowered the price on almost everything, and also added a ton of stuff to the $10 sale section!  Hope you all had a great weekend, and hopefully if you're in the US you even have the day off today as well!

  1. What a funny story about the original dress. Lucky you stumbled apon the same vintage and could hem it for your own! I love this dress so much, and I think that next time I'm out thrifting I won't skip over the dresses. I do not know why, but seeing a long dress and thinking "HEM IT" just weren't in my brain. Now, it is. THANK you for that!!

  3. And this is why I could never own an Etsy shop. I would get too attached to the clothes and keep them all! This dress is really cute on you. I am glad you kept it and I love the hat and bow!

  5. I love this story! I'm so attached to my clothes (it's sort of sad) and I don't know how you can manage putting so many things you love up for sale! I love that this dress sort of came back to you -- it was meant to be! And I love the bow embellishment, too.

  10. Oh that's so funny! I've been finding duplicate dresses in different thrift shops lately...kind of crazy. I have yet to keep one for myself though. And hands down favorite outfit!!! I swear if I'm gonna wear a dress it's typically a baby doll with a beanie. Best thing ever! You look darling Hannah!

  12. Ok is it totally providential to find two of THE SAME dress in a thrift store?! It's adorable. I would guess you got it at Forever 21 or Madewell or something, it's completely trendy, but in a timeless way! Nice find!!
