Exploring the Shoreline

Another week to tackle! The great thing about having vacation pictures to share with you guys is that I don't have to worry about taking outfit pictures for a little bit.  Though I guess a smart person would stay ahead of the game and have a few saved up for later!  I have to remember that I am spoiled with this great summertime light and that it doesn't always stay light so late like this.  It's amazing how quickly I start taking these little seasonal things for granted.  Are you guys ready for fall or still trying to hold on to summer for all its worth?  I think I am finding myself somewhere in the middle, as this summer was unbearably hot, so something in the middle will be nice!

What I Wore:
Dress: Gift from Mom
Sandals: Reef
Necklace & Scarf: Vintage
Sunglasses: c/o American Apparel

Anyway, these pictures are from my favorite day of the vacation.  R and I woke up, got breakfast, and then decided to go on an exploration walk along the coastline.  As you can see, the water was stunningly clear and the most amazing aqua blue.  We found ourselves coming upon a bunch of abandoned buildings that were both sad and beautiful at the same time.  R said that people would think it was strange that I had a roll of hundreds of pictures of dilapidated, overgrown buildings and only a few of our actual nice hotel, but I find the broken places have so much more character.
The building that you see here was my most favorite and standing inside where I guess the restaurant and bar used be under the crumbling beams and palm roof looking at the ocean was amazing. The second picture is a view of the building from a distance and the rest are from inside.  At first, we only felt comfortable exploring the large open patio area, but then we decided to go back and brave the old kitchen areas and around back.  I have about 20 pictures of R peaking hesitantly around corners while I am following behind with my camera.  The scariest of all was the abandoned mens and womens room- I am not sure why, but when I turned the corner and saw the restroom signs I decided it was time to turn around quickly!  I am not sure what happened to these beautiful abandoned places- whether they got hit my a storm and never rebuilt, ran out of money, or some other reason, but they were in abundance and I would love to research more about what happened to them.  For now though, I will just leave you with these images while I daydream at my desk at work about being back there right now.
Happy Monday!
xo Hannah

  3. These photos are by far the most breathtaking I've seen anywhere in a while! This truly looks like paradise Hannah. I think I might never want to leave. I've been to Mexico before, but it was nowhere near as beautiful as this! I'm obsessed with dilapidated buildings, but always tend to creep myself once I get inside. There's always a haunting sadness in them, yet the intrigue of their beauty always pulls be in deeper, ya know? Anyhow, looks like the perfect vacation! You look flawless as always! xo Marisa

  4. Woah, the dress I'm wearing in my outfit post today is really similar to this one. Needless to say, I love it. But ANYWAY, I love hearing about your vacation, you look like you had so much fun and you're so happy in all of the photos! That building is beyond awesome too.

  5. Wow, interesting! Great pictures. Brings me back to a time I explored an abandoned resort on St Martin, and I swear when I looked through a dirty cracked window into a room, suddenly a head popped up and someone was looking back at me! No it wasn't just my own reflection. For real! We ran like the wind out of there!

And my oh my, that water looks appealing.

  6. I don't know why, but I think the bathrooms would give me heebie jeebies, too! In my hometown, we had a devastating tornado hit last year and there are still some abandoned/condemned buildings that haven't been removed or rebuilt yet. I understand your fascination, because I am strangely drawn to these ruins, too!

  13. these vacation photos make me really want to go on vacation! The water looks so beautiful in the background and so do those abandoned buildings. There's so something about abandoned buildings that make it so mysterious and interesting to look around.
