Pastel Sunsets

So here's the story of these overalls.  The short version is that when I ordered these, I thought they were going to have a loose casual fit and they turned out to be quite fitted instead.

The long version is: About a month ago, I got it in my head that I NEEDED a pair of "skinny" overalls with a more tapered leg after seeing them on some of my favorite bloggers.  I actually ordered a pair, paid for it, and then was told later that they were out of stock.  How to companies sell things that are out of stock? Isn't that's what computer inventory systems, etc., are for?!  Anyway, I grumpily turned to ebay to search for an afforable pair and landed on what looked perfect, except that it was from China and I never know what size to get (when in doubt, the largest one possible). Which is what I did.  So, I then waited a patient (HA) three weeks for my XL overalls in the mail, checking the tracking progress, oh you know, at least once a day.  So, they finally arrived this week and it was like Christmas morning, which is how it is when anything I order off the internet and then wait a long time for arrives.  I ran upstairs to try them on, and lets just say the "slouchy-cool" fit that the model in the picture showed was NOT how these bad boys looked on me.  At all.  Let's just say I felt like a stuffed pork sausage in my new XL overalls and ripped them off and decided I hated them.

Fast forward a day or two and I decided I'd give them a second shot to run some errands.  And lo and behold, this set of photos is actually my favorite outfit in awhile.  When I finally decided to put them back on without the image of how they looked on the model in my head and tried to embrace (ok tolerate) my hips and thighs, I felt so much better! But let's just say there won't be any back-end views of me wearing these quite yet on the internet.
Does this ever happen to you, especially after ordering things online?  Its so easy to get it in your head that you don't measure up in some way to things you see in the media.  As they say, comparison is the thief of joy!  But I think its super important to remind yourself that whatever thoughts of jealousy or longing you are having about something you see in someone else's life, someone else may be having those same thoughts about YOUR life!
Thanks for listening to my rant guys. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Ah, it's so disappointing when something you order online doesn't fit how you expected in real life! Especially if it's something that looks totally different on the model. But you're so right about comparison being the thief of joy. I've actually been having issue with comparing myself to other bloggers lately, and I have to keep reminding myself how bad that is!
Personally I think these look AWESOME on you; I never thought a fitted pair of overalls would look good, but you have a great figure and they're flattering on you! (But I totally sympathize with not being that jazzed about hips and thighs. I've never been on friendly terms with mine, either)
I'm glad you were able to make the best out of what you got! I really love this outfit and these pictures, and especially that your scarf, sunnies, and lipstick all coordinate so well!

    1. Thanks so much for the sweet comment Kristina! It's seriously so hard not to do, I think we all do it! And it makes it harder that we all obviously only post the *best* photos usually (angles, lighting, filters... you name it!) Have a wonderful weekend!!! xoxo

  2. well this most certainly was a justifiable rant! It gets to me to no end when companies exclusively show razor thin models in every single product listing. esp those asian companies, like I swear those models are even tiny for asian standards. and i'll never understand how an XL can be snug when they're selling to the American market, but especially on you, I always admire how fit you look Hannah! You have gorgeous hips and thighs and I think these overalls really show it. Although not loose overalls, unless they have a ton of stretch i suppose, doesn't sound like the comfiest option to me, then again that's coming from someone who doesnt find anything w/out an elastic waistband to be the comfiest option. either way, you look great and i'm loving how fun this outfit is w/ the beanie & tennis shoes!

    1. They are!!! I think a lot of it has to be ridiculous photo shop jobs! And these actually have a lot of stretch which is how I even got them on probably! They actually fit *perfectly* because of the stretch - elastic or oversized fits are totally a requirement for me to be comfortable too. Thanks so much Dus!!! XOXO

  3. I've had more disappointments than I can count when ordering stuff online. Especially because you are seeing a photo of someone else wearing it so you have a vision that's what it should look like, as opposed to seeing it hang on the rack. Those Asian shops sure do have cooky sizes! I recently got a "one size fits all" skirt with a waistband so tight! But on to the overalls- these look amazing on you! I actually prefer a more fitted look with overalls, I think it really modernizes the style! I've had temptation with overalls but I can't get over my memories of living in my baggy Gap ones in the 90s- this outfit may have swayed me! :)

    1. I'm glad someone can relate! Yeah I have gone the one size route too, and even if its elastic, its still somehow tiny in the waist! And, I definitely think you should go for a pair of overalls! Thank you Lisa :)

  6. Hah, I knew these must be the ones you'd referred to in your Facebook status! But seriously, they actually look amaaaazing on you. You do NOT look like a "stuffed sausage" in the slightest -- I think they're actually really flattering on your body! Was the inspiration from Kaylah of The Dainty Squid? I really loved that post she did in overalls, so if so, I can see why you needed to find some! I get really obsessive over fashion things I need to find, and yes, I absolutely have a certain fit in my head and if it doesn't live up to that in real life, it's so disappointing! I'm actually planning on doing a post about comparison being the thief of joy, and you're absolutely right -- you need to remind yourself of that!

  7. Thanks for this post, Hannah! This was a good reminder that everyone's self esteem takes a dip sometimes, but it's always possible to come out on top with a positive outlook and efforts toward self acceptance.

Hips and thighs for the win, I say! I love the fitted look of these overalls, and while I know how frustrating it is when what comes in the mail doesn't look at all like the picture, I'm glad you gave these another shot :) This is a super cute outfit, and that scarf is amazing!
