Black is the new black.

Hi friends! Finally Friday and finally a blog post! You'll probably notice things looking a bit different around here, can I get another "finally"!?  I have a fresh new blog layout thanks to Suzana at This Girl Designs.  I have been looking for weeks for a pre made template that I like, something new with lots of white and clean lines.  I decided on this one, which Suzana installed for me free of charge within 24 hours of my purchase which was awesome.  I then tweaked a few things to make it a bit more personalized to my style, and voila, here it is!

On to the outfit! This is the second way I am styling this adorable peter pan collar dress from Erica of Sweets and Hearts, this time wearing it as a blouse.  This quilted skirt is going to definitely be a fall and winter staple for me.  And my pink hair is almost completely faded! I am trying to resist the urge to re-do it because I am heading to Italy at the end of the month and want just my natural hair for the trip.  R and I are trying to learn some key Italian phrases!  So far the most important thing I have discovered in my language lessons is that "latte" just means milk, not a type of coffee drink!

If any of you have been to Italy I would love to hear some suggestions!  We are going to be on the Amalfi coast for most of the time (Positano, Sorrento, and Capri) and then back up to Rome, Florence, and Venice!  I am SO excited!

Oh and here is a little before and after of the blog makeover!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend planned!

Cargo Jacket Roundup

Hi guys! Just wanted to let you know I am over on the Flock Together blog today doing a little remix of one of my favorite transitional pieces for fall: cargo jackets!  Stop by and say hello, and make sure to leave a link if you've ever styled a cargo jacket on your own blog! :)

Tree House

Hi guys, happy Friday!  I meant to have this post up earlier in the day, but this morning was just kind of strange.  Let's just say I found my second lost dog in two weeks time, but it turned out to be a little bit weird and aggressive, and I couldn't read its tag to call the number!  I went back looking for it in my car but couldn't find it again.  Oh well I tried! And speaking of lost or abandoned animals, did you see my new volunteer gig on instagram?!  I get to feed a whole colony of feral and abandoned cats in my town and they are the cutest!

Anyway, on to the outfit.  I borrowed this darling tree and house print dress from Erica of Sweets and Hearts.  I'm not sure why none of the other Flock Together gals have jumped on this one yet for swaps because its seriously the cutest!  Make sure to hop on over to Erica's blog to see how she styled it too!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Orange is the New Black

A few years ago I started this blog as a networking and promotional tool for the vintage shop I was opening.  Last night while R and I were working on some rebranding materials, he asked me what my blog is for now.  While I still think it is important networking and promotional tool, this blog has also really become a favorite creative outlet of mine.  Since our recent move to a new town, I have actually liked going out to explore new photo locations and my tripod has again become more of a buddy and less of a dreaded necessity.  All that to say... I know these photos are strange, but sometimes I really like to not only use this blog to show "what I'm wearing", but also get to express a bit of creativity through it!
Outfit Details:
Dress - borrowed from Taylor
Crown - handmade by me
Beaded Necklace - Mitla Moda
Cat Pin - Albinohare on Etsy
Floral Sneakers - Target
Pink Wig - c/o Wigsbuy

Down the road from our new place is this giant abandoned sugar mill.  Even closer are these open fields with strange abandoned concrete patches and sand piles.  Most people think the mill is an eye sore, but I actually find places that these "leftover" places beautiful.   I thought it would be a fun contrast to shoot a colorful feminine outfit in this strange mix of industrial and wild. The effects are pretty but definitely eery.

On a more sartorial note, orange is definitely not one of my usual favorite colors, but when Taylor offered up this pretty textured dress for swap, I couldn't pass it up!  I paired it with a beautiful hand beaded necklace from Dus's fair trade shop Mitla Moda, along with my favorite meowmaid pin and a flower crown I made.  Dus said this necklace reminded her of my pink wig, so I of course had to throw that on too to complete the crazy sorbet colored party!

Hope you are all having a wonderful day!

The Novelty of Summer

Hi guys!  I decided to wake up and go on a bike ride exploring my new neighborhood this morning instead of writing a blog post.  Judging from my general improved mood today, I'd say this was a good decision!

Outfit Details:
Dress - borrowed from Sammi
Jelly Sandals - vintage from the shop (sold)
Hat - Brixton
Sunnies - Lulu*s
Scarf - Vintage/ gift

I feel like a broken record whenever I talk about Sammi of The Soubrette Brunette on here, but she seriously is just the sweetest gal with a killer wardrobe!  I borrowed this novelty print dress with vintage cars and records on it, and used R's little Miata as the backdrop for these photos.

Anyway, my to-do list is a million miles long, I want to get so much done!  Hope you all have a beautiful weekend!

Pastel Houses

I've had my eye on this beautiful pastel house print dress for SO long.  So when I saw that Sammi was offering it up for swap via Flock Together, I could not wait to style it!  Since I moved into my very own (rental) pastel house just last weekend, I thought it would be the perfect occasion to ask to borrow it!

Outfit Details:
Dress - Yumi, borrowed from Sammi
Bow Flats - vintage
Pastel Wigc/o Wigsbuy

In other exciting news... UNICORN HAIR!   A few weeks ago, a sweet lady over at an online wig retailer called Wigsbuy reached out to see if I would be interested in doing a review.  At first I was hesitant after reading a few negative things online, but honestly, I am pretty thrilled with my cotton candy colored wig!  I have wanted light pink or lavender hair for awhile now, so this was the perfect way for me to give it a try without the commitment or upkeep.  This particular one has a very light pastel pink in front, with lavender underneath and a bright light blue in back!  They also have natural looking wigs, but I definitely wanted to go for something a bit more costume-y.  I think the wig looks better with a bit of a style to it so I pulled it back, and it came with a cute pink comb and was easy to brush out without losing a lot of hairs.  It also came with clips and a wig cap, which I need to learn how to use better. Anyway, I can honestly say I am really happy with the fun one I chose!  What to you guys think?!

Hope you are having a wonderful day, and a big thanks to Sammi for letting my borrow my dream dress!

Lemon Lime

I received this absolutely gorgeous vintage dress as a Flock Together Secret Santa gift from Amy in December when the ground was covered with snow.  Thank you again Amy! It was actually originally a beautiful maxi length dress, but I knew I would get much more wear out of it in the summer months if I made it more casual by taking up the hem a bit.  I was SO excited to wear it during the warmer weather yesterday, but funnily enough, its now snowing again here. UGH.

Outfit Details
Vintage Dress - Gift from Amy
Buckle Boots - Crown Vintage via DSW
Flower Crown - DIY

From what I have gathered living here over the past few years, the Colorado rules of weather are as follows: Number one is, there are actually no rules.  But if there were any rules, they would definitely include: it will snow at least once after you think it couldn't possibly snow again this late in the year.  Last week was in the 80s. Yup!

We celebrated Mother's Day with R's mom on Saturday night instead of Sunday at a yummy new-to-us Thai food place.  We are spending today on the couch grumbling about the weather but perhaps secretly grateful for a day filled with laziness and snacks.
Hope you all had a great (hopefully snow-free) weekend!

p.s. Happy Mother's day to my Mom, who is always a huge supporter of me/ this blog, and to all the beautiful mommy bloggers reading this! <3
