I promise this week is the last of the vacation pictures- I think there is only one more round to go! A lot of you have mentioned being jealous of the warmth, and let me tell you- you and me both now that I have been back in Colorado for a week!

     The little peach colored house in the background of a few of these is the place my family rented in Kauai for the week.  I really love renting homes or apartments when traveling instead of hotels because you usually get more space and a more local experience, a lot of times for a fraction of the price!  Though, there is definitely something to be said for a pretty hotel too since it usually comes with many more amenities like restaurants and swimming pools! Which would you prefer?

    I got this cute little plaid dress for Christmas from my mom and its going to be such a fun piece to remix! I decided to layer a vintage blouse underneath because it was a bit  rainy (oh and because my back was super sun burnt and streaky because I'm an a-hole. Thank goodness for the abundant aloe vera bushes growing in the front yard!)  And speaking of remixes, I would love if you would come and check out my post on the Flock Together blog I did today!

Turtle Bay

Well, it feels like a cruel joke still having about a weeks worth of Hawai'i pictures left to post since it is all of FIVE degrees here in Colorado today! R and I tried to go on a snowy walk this weekend to get out of the house a bit, and it was so cold and miserable we only made it around the block.  I will be looking into affordable gym memberships today because burritos and leftover holiday chocolates are not a great mix with sitting on the couch.

      On to actual nice things to talk about, like the beach!  These photos were taken on Oahu near the grounds of the Turtle Bay resort.  Have you guys seen Forgetting Sarah Marshall? Yup, its that hotel! I know R and my brother were hoping Mila Kunis would be greeting us at the front desk! We stayed there when I was younger, but we were just visiting for the day to do a little hike along the coastline this time.  It obviously was not a strenuous hike, as I was wearing a ruffled dress and my trusty reef flip flops, but it was a beautiful mixture of forest trails and sandy beaches. Let's just say that with the amount of layers I am wearing right now, I'm sure going to miss being able to only have to write two items in the "what I'm wearing" section! Stay warm and have a good start to your week!

the best day

The first day of this new year started with a hangover and cloudy weather.  I find it hard to start the year strong with a throbbing head, unquenchable thirst, and rain looming near, but this day managed to pull through as perhaps my favorite day of the whole vacation.  It was a day of no makeup and a comfy maxi dress with a backpack strapped on and no particular plans except to go on a walk with R and explore.  R had read about a secret beach near the house we were renting in Princeville, Kauai that we hoped to eventually find.  Our first stop on our walk however, was the exquisite cliffside St. Regis hotel nearby.  We wandered around pretending we were honey-mooning at this swanky place and took in the panoramic views on the balcony.  After relaxing and taking it all in, we found the  hidden trail to the beach, complete with frayed ropes to lower yourself down where the guard rail had long since rusted away.  The best days always include a little bit of adventure.  Below are some of my favorite snaps from the first day of this new year, I hope you enjoy!

 Our adventure started with a walk down the road for a few miles to the St. Regis.  On the way, I spotted these gorgeous little two level condos, which I plan on living in someday!

 All was well and good after we did some serious frolicking in the water, shouting and running around with no one watching.  That is, until we spotted the man-o-wars washed up all over the sand.  Needless to say, we did not go back in for a swim after. 

Those terrifying tiny creatures and cloudy skies did not dampen our day however! We had our own little adventure and I could not have asked for a better start to 2013.

Lilac Gardens

Aloha friends!

    These photos were quickly snapped on yet another grey day on Kauai last week.  I spotted this pretty Japanese style house a few down from ours and thought it would be the perfect backdrop for my lilac dress.  Yet another example of me trying to match my outfits to my surroundings! My mom told us all a story at dinner the other night about when I was really little. She said we could go into basically ANY bathroom at a restaurant, etc., and I would find something nice to say about the decor of the bathroom and say that a part of what I was wearing matched it.  Ha! See, I was a fashion blogger in training at age 6, who knew?

     Anyway, it has continued to be rain here on Oahu, but we actually got a much welcomed peek of sunshine today! We went for a hike along the shoreline of the Turtle Bay Resort (where Forgetting Sarah Marshall was filmed!) and then went and lounged to watch a surfing contest.  Only two more days left and I am praying for sun!  I hope you all are having a lovely start to your week!

Kilauea Lighthouse

Aloha & Happy Friday!

    Yesterday, we took an inter-island flight to Oahu and then drove to the North Shore to the house we are renting for the week.  These pictures, however, are from our last day on Kauai when we drove to Kilauea Lighthouse and wildlife refuge.  Though the weather was not the greatest, the lighthouse itself was still beautiful and the views were even better along the coastline.  There were multiple species of seabirds flying around and we even got to see the Hawaiian Nene goose and its babies.  Heres a fun fact.  When we used to visit Hawaii when we were kids, my brother Noah saw a Nene goose and decided he would not respond to any other name but "Nene" from then on.  To this day I still call my brother "Nini" or "bird" more than his actual name!

       Anyway, I got this adorable Modcloth sweater from my wishlist for Christmas and I absolutely love it!  I had to wear my yellow floral crown to match the braided yellow piping on the sweater and decided on a little black and white print mixing as well.  I rarely wear shorts as I usually prefer a comfy sun dress, but it was a welcome change, especially on such a windy day.  And speaking of wind, our new place on Oahu is RIGHT on the beach, but its been so windy that its kind of scary to even go outside.  I hope the weather lets up for this last part of vacation! Red, White, and Blue Hawaii

Hello and Happy New Year!

    A rainy day here on Kauai leaves a bit of time to catch up on blogging!  It is our last full day here before we move on to the north shore of Oahu.  These photos were taken in the back yard of the house we are renting here. It is a bit of a bummer that it has been raining for two days now, but it is also the reason all of the tropical plants are so beautiful and abundant here, so I guess that's a pretty fair trade off.

     We spent New Years Eve driving across the island in lots of traffic in order to get to Waimea Canyon, which is known as the grand canyon of Hawai'i.  It was quite a long car ride, but the hike we did at the end was pretty amazing! We hiked along a canyon ridge in the fog, so when you looked to either side it looked like you were in a huge abyss of clouds. After the one car ride back, we all rallied and went out to a late dinner with a few too many Sake bombs, and then my brother, R and I headed out to a local bar to ring in the New Year.  I am trying to enjoy life in the moment for now and have not made my typical list of resolutions yet, but probably should give that some thought soon.  How did you guys ring in the new year?  I am off to read some of your blogs to find out :)
