DIY Tree Branch Jewelry Rack

Just wanted to share a quick and easy DIY I did a few weekends ago to try and organize all of my jewelry!  I basically just picked an already trimmed thick branch from a pile of tree trimmings on the side of the road, added nails, and hung it!  I love that not only does it provide a space to hang all of my bigger necklaces, but also acts as a piece of fun wall art on a previously bare wall space!  I would recommend finding a piece of wood with a little character, mine had some slight imperfectins and it made me like it all the better!
Supplies Needed:
Found Branch (about 3ft long, 2 in diameter)
Nails (15)
Hammer
Hemp (or wire)
White Plastic Wall Hooks (2)

The steps are pretty simple!
1. Find a suitable branch.  Look for one that has already been cut ideally!
2. Mark where you want your nails to go with a light marker.
3. Nail them into place, I did mine about every 2 inches or so.  You want to have room for your bulkier jewelry to not have to be on top of eachother when hanging.  Also make sure you are nailing them in so the nail head is at a slight upward angle so the necklaces don't slide off when it is hung. (see picture 2)
4. Only nail them about halfway in, you want to leave enough room for hanging the necklaces.
5. Now you are ready to hang the branch.  Mark the wall lightly with pencil where the branch ends will be.  Then, stick the plastic wall hangers (I used some from 3M brand) over these spots.  Follow the instructions, usually you should leave them for a few hours, or overnight, before anything is actually hung on them to let the stickies really take hold.
6. Take the branch and, with the row of nails facing forward and at a slight upwards, nail one more nail on the very top of the branch at each end. Nail these in so only about a centimeter is left out.
7.  Wrap hemp or wire around these top end nails, making tight knots around the nail and end in a loop (or more securely, a double loop), that you will use to hang your branch from the two wall hangers.  (see picture 3)
8. When you have waited the specified time to hang something from the sticky wall hangers, go ahead and attack your branch by the hemp loops!
9.  Add all your pretty jewelry, and voila, organization and a piece of wall art in one!

This whole project cost me about 5 dollars to make.  I already had hemp rope lying around and a hammer, so all I needed to do was buy a few nails and sticky-backed wall hangers.  Hope you enjoyed this tutorial, I hope to add more DIY projects to the blog soon!  How do you organize your jewelry?

Obey the Rebel Waltz

Happy New Years friends! I hope everyone had a terrific time celebrating this weekend.  I find myself stuck at work today and lost in thought.  My mind lately seems to be a pendulum, swinging from highly excited and inspired about something to daunted and down, sometimes all within a few minutes.  I guess that is normal while welcoming in a new year, usually a time for change and new beginnings?
Before I ramble on more, I wanted to share with you some pictures that were taken while I was home in New Jersey a few weeks ago.  They were taken in Asbury Park in the old casino and carousel buildings on the boardwalk.  They are now very dilapidated, but still very beautiful and have tons of really cool history behind them.  Graffiti artists paint huge murals all over the huge walls, and the place is always filled with photographers.  I wish I had more time here, we just jumped out of the car for about twenty minutes because we were running early on the way to the airport home.

"Obey the Rebel Waltz" is what the black and white wall said, and you can find more info about Obey here.  Also, apologies for the boring outfit repeat, these were taken the same day as my holiday post!  As for my New Year's celebrating, R and I went to an Irish pub to have a delicious dinner of fish and chips and listen to a live band, and it was only a $1 cover.  Can't beat that!  I didn't get any outfit pictures, which I am kind of bummed about, so maybe I will throw it back on some time this week and snap a few pictures! I finished my move this weekend and now am in the unpacking phase.  I will try and share some pictures when I am happy with how it looks. Which at this point, could be awhile! Alright, more later, and I would love to hear about your NYE so feel free to leave links!

Lovely vintage fashion prints

Hello Lovelies,
It has been freezing cold and dark by the time I get home from work, so I do not have any outfits to share with you at the moment.  I am also working extra long day this week so I can take Monday and Friday off to go visit my best friend in Indianapolis!  I do want to share some amazing vintage fashion prints from Vanity Fair, Vogue, and Glamour that are up for sale at a really cool artistic daily deal website Fab.com.  If you aren't a member, you can go to http://fab.com/husaro which is an invitation link.  This is not a promotion, just a cool site I thought I would share with you all. All photos and information are from Fab.com.  All photos link back to where they are for sale, but you may have to be a member to view everything on the site, I am not sure.   Enjoy!

"What I find so inspiring about these prints is how the photographers actually took the time to patiently compose compelling images that evoked a quiet sexiness mixed with unabashed style. Reclaiming retro is what these classic prints are all about." – Andre Wagner, Production Coordinator at Fab.com

Against the grand metropolitan backdrop of New York's Chrysler Building, Santé Forlano captures two models in twin, ladylike looks: pink wool baby doll dresses by Masket Brothers and Virginie of Paris for Haynette, velvet dome hats by Madcaps, and fur muffs by Ingber. The image appeared in the August 15, 1958 issue of Vogue.

William Bell's playful image, which appeared in the February 15, 1959, Vogue issue, accompanied a short piece on how to wear the latest shoes and stockings. New for spring of '59? Experimenting with matching hosiery and pumps or flipping convention by wearing shoes with various nude colored stockings.

This classic Vogue print is taken from the May 10, 1930 issue. Here, Tilly Losch is wearing a polka dot blouse with a dark jacket, both by Yvonne Carette, and a turban from Boucheron.

This striking, imaginative image features a most unusual dining experience. A model in a black crepe dress and large feather hat by Lilly Daché gazes intently at a cheetah. The jungle cat appears quite civilized, given the napkin tied around its neck and the champagne bucket next to its place setting. Leombruno-Bodi's elaborately staged photograph appeared in the November 1, 1960 Vogue issue.

A sophisticated woman smiles charmingly to someone outside of this photograph's frame. Sitting in a restaurant banquette, she wears a black velvet visor with a rhinestone pin by Dior. A satin scarf, also by Dior, is tied intricately around her neck and chest. The chic scene, captured by Henry Clarke, appeared in the November 15, 1952 Vogue issue.
