Tis the Season

Hi guys,
Did you have a good weekend?  Mine was pretty busy running errands and working on gifts, but I am sure most people are doing the same!  I always have grand plans for homemade and DIY presents, but this year I don't know where the time has gone.  I think as long as a gift is thoughtful though it is still good!  The most daunting task by far will be to fit all of them in my suitcase to Hawai'i!  I am already not the lightest of packers, so its going to be interesting to say the least!

     I wore this little festive outfit yesterday to treat R and his Mom to an early holiday brunch, which was the best part of my weekend!  We went to one of my favorite places called Lucille's that has THE BEST bloody Mary's and the best ketchup I have ever had.  They make both in house, and I bought a ketchup and bloody mary mix to take home with me as well. For brunch they had delicious french toast with home made cinnamon syrup and I had a delicious veggie Eggs Benedict.  Sheesh can you tell I am hungry right now?  R's Mom also completely spoiled me with a bag of amazing gifts, and R and I are celebrating Christmas this week before I leave! What a fun but busy time!

Jumpers for Joy

Happiest of Fridays to you! Today I am bringing you another exciting round of socks over tights, I'm on a roll.  It's less exciting when they're so similar in color though.  I am decked out in red plaid and a big bow and so ready for the holidays!

Since R is sometimes my photographer, I often ask him to give me creative direction on what would look good, how to stand, etc.  His advice on this day: "It would look really cool if you blew a puff of  breath so you could see how cold it is." 

FAIL.

    Do you guys have any fun weekend plans?  I plan on finishing up all my last minute gifts, starting a packing list for vacation, altering some pretty vintage, and going out to brunch at my favorite brunch place! It's a cajun inspired place and they have THE best Bloody Mary, yum!  Cheers to you!

Hey Four Eyes

Hi guys!

Happy Wednesday, we're halfway there!  It is cold and snowy here in Colorado, but as long as I have to be inside at work anyway, I don't mind much. As I said in my previous post, I have had to get more creative in my layering, so here I am wearing a pair of lacy black tights over another yellow pair! I got the idea from the lovely Leah of We Live Upstairs- thanks girl!  The quickly dropping temperatures do make throwing off your jacket for a quick round of outfit photos quite chilly though.  If you guys really want to know what I will look like on a daily basis here, just picture a red nose poking out of a hat and scarf under a long down puff jacket!  One thing that has been cheering me up on these cold winter days is my new glasses that I received from a pretty awesome online retailer called Firmoo.com!

    I chose this yellow pair because I already have normal black and brown pairs and wanted to have a little bit more fun.  Not only do I need to wear glasses while I am driving at night, but I honestly just like them as an accessory as well.  Its also nice to be able to be able to see the small details I could miss without glasses on, like the details of leaves on the trees, or you know, small children in the middle of the road. It took me a bit to get used to how bold these were, but after a few days they became my glasses of choice over my other pairs.  Honestly what do you guys think? Cute or crazy? I think a bit of both!

     It took me about a week to pick out a pair because I am indecisive and over think everything.  The Firmoo site is really comprehensive though and easy to navigate.  The best part for me was that you can upload your own picture to see how the frames will look on you! That honestly made it even easier than trying on a million pairs in a store with a salesperson awkwardly hovering over your shoulder.  Now I want this same pair in red as well, but made into sunglasses with my prescription... its kind of addicting!

     By far the coolest part of Firmoo is that anyone can get their first pair of glasses free from them!  The ones I got are usually $39, but you can choose these or any (non-designer) glasses from their site for free if its your first time shopping there.  You can get more information here!

Socks and Tights

Socks and tights, knee highs and tights, tights and tights...  Colorado has turned to its appropriately freezing temperatures for December, so if I want to continue to wear my favorite dresses, I have to master the art of layering leg-wear.  In these pictures I chose one of my favorite combos, tights (they're the same color as my skin, you can't see em'!) and above the knee socks.  Just wait til you see the tights on tights combo I came up with for later this week!

     In other important news besides the ever-important discussion of my socks and the weather, I am getting prettttty excited about my upcoming vacation.  Coming into work this morning wasn't even that terrible for a Monday.  It seems everything in my daily life becomes more manageable when there is something I am really looking forward to looming on the near horizon.  R and I were daydreaming about the trip on the way into work this morning and it is actually funny what one of the top thing we are looking forward to is: drinking Kona coffee outside on the porch in the mornings.  There is just something so amazing about just sitting, taking in the scenery and warm air.  Usually coffee is used as an aid to wake me up in the mornings, to reduce stress, and to get me through a work day.  It is a rare occasion when I can just sit and enjoy a cup for what it is!  That and the fact that Kona coffee is one of my favorite coffees in the world!

Happy Camper

It's finally Friday and that makes me a happy camper!

After what has seemed liked a very long week, I am sitting here with my Friday latte thinking that it's actually not so bad after all, there are so many great things to look forward too! That combined with the fact that this outfit from a little birthday walk at Wonderland Lake last weekend is one of my favorites- I am feeling like a pretty lucky gal.

    So, lets talk about clothes for a bit and then I want to tell you guys a few things that I am happy about or looking forward to in the near future!  My birthday fell on a Sunday this year so instead of trying to find the perfect dress, I went with some more comfortable and low key.  The awesome people over at American Apparel let me pick out some things to wear and, as I said, it turned out to be one of my favorite outfits EVER.  First of all, I have been searching for a good chambray shirt for quite some times, and this one did not disappoint.  I think I have worn it about four different ways in the two weeks I have had it! And oh my goodness the pants.  I have these in a mint color too, but went one size up for these because high waisted thing usually make me feel slightly claustrophobic after about an hour.  These are, in my honest opinion, the best pants ever.  They have the perfect amount of stretch and I dressed them up with heels and a cropped vintage lace tee and lace up booties for dinner and drinks the night before. I am putting the dark green ones, "Posy", on my wishlist! The hair bow and marbled oxfords were the perfect finishing touches!

     As for the other parts of my outfit, this cozy vintage fair isle snowflake sweater is now for sale in my shop!  The backpack  is the 'Little America' backpack in Butterscotch from Herschel Supply Co. and was one of my birthday gifts from R. I absolutely love it and really like how the maroon+denim+butterscotch colors ended up working together.

      Okay, so here are a few reasons I am feeling happy and lucky. 

1. Today is not only Friday, but is also the T-minus 2 week mark until vacation.

2. Birthday love I got from family and friends (and you guys!)

3. I am excited about being with my family all at the same time in just two weeks!

4. I am excited that R will be joining us in Hawai'i just in time for New Years.

5. I am happy that I have a full time job, and while it may be boring, I also have a vintage shop that I can actually put more heart and creativity into!

6. I am happy I have this blog and all of the opportunities it has brought me and all of the amazing people I have met!

Holiday Greeting Letters DIY

Hi guys! 

     Recently I was invited to be a guest blogger for a group of awesome gals who call themselves Ladies of the Mountains (LOTM).  They have asked me to share a holiday craft DIY with you, so after some thought I decided I would make some festive holiday lettering decor, which was originally inspired by these monograms from Anthropologie!  I don't know about you, but I can't currently afford to pay $48 for a wooden letter!  This DIY cost me a total of, drum roll please, ZERO DOLLARS, because I already had all of the supplies!  And I quite like my new room letters!  I will walk you through the simple steps I took to make the holiday greetings decor below.

1. Pick out your phrase! I originally was planning to do the phrase "Merry & Bright" but realized I needed quite a large amount of space to fit those letters! Some other fun options would be "Peace", "Joy", or "Fa La La".  

Supplies Needed: Old magazines, ruler, scissors, exacto knife (box cutter), markers, craft glue, and cardboard.
2. Rip out some of your favorite pictures from magazines.  The magazines I used for this project were Free People, Anthropologie, Swell, and Urban Outfitters.  I tried to choose images that had a lot of colors or textures that would show up well.

 3. Draw a letter onto each magazine page.  Make sure to use a ruler so you can keep your letters relatively the same size with straight edges.  My letters were all approximately 7"x 8.5". You can look at different fonts online for guidance!

 4.  Cut out your letters, but if there is an inside cutout on the letter, like on a "B", leave those for now.

 5. Using your exact knife, cut out cardboard mounting squares for each letter.  Make sure to be cutting on at least two layers of cardboard so you don't ruin whatever is beneath what you're cutting.

 6.  Glue your letters to the cardboard squares.  Make sure the letters have a light coat of glue completely covering the back, and use your finger to smooth down any bubbles or lines once the letter is in place. Let dry.

 7. Lastly, use your exacto knife to cut out the letters!  Curved letters are harder to cut, but still doable.  Practice making some curves on scrap cardboard first, and remember to press hard and point the knife away from you! Smooth solid lines of cutting movement make the best edges. And voila! Now you have your pretty holiday greeting letters to put anywhere you please!  Below are a few examples of different ways I tried arranging them in different places around my room.  Which is your favorite?

For now, they will be living in the little picture window above my bed!  Whew, I have not done a craft project in such a long time, it felt so nice to be creative after work instead of my typical slumpy ball of hatefulness! Also, I would like to point out my new digitally printed "barn wood" floor mat that I asked my parents for for my birthday! I am planning to use it as my flooring for my vintage listings on etsy, but it worked really nicely as a display area for this project too! So much better then the lumpy carpet that's actually in my bedroom!
