As promised, here are a few pictures I snapped of my foster kitty
Hamilton! Isn't he handsome?! Hamilton (or Hammy, as I tend to call
him), was hit by a car a few weeks ago and was brought into my local
humane society. I had just signed up to become a foster parent for
kitties and was so excited when I got the email about Hammy. Sadly, he
had to get one of his back legs amputated, so they needed someone to
take him for a few weeks to give him all of his medicine and give him
some love and attention while he healed- and that's where I come in!
When I first got Hammy two weeks ago, you could tell he was very frightened and in a lot of pain so he would often hiss and bite if I tried to get close. Only two weeks later, he is a little snuggler and will come sit on my lap as soon as I sit down on the floor. He loves being picked up and put on my bed to hang out up there with me and I am so happy he has become such a sweetheart in such a short period of time!
Hamilton goes back to the shelter today to get his stitches out and go into the adoption room to hopefully get adopted as soon as possible! Everyone always asks "how can you give them up at the end?!" I grew up doing foster care for cats with my mom, and though it is always hard, you know that you helped the kitties in some way and that you wouldn't be able to take in future foster kitties if you kept them all! Anyway, just wanted to show everyone how adorable Mister Hammy is and I am going to be asked to be notified when he find his forever home (and visit him in the meantime)! So send some luck and love in his direction!
Have any of you ever volunteered at an animal shelter or adopted a pet from one?
