The Most Ridiculous Shirt

Hi guys, I hope you had a wonderful 4th!  This is what I donned for America's birthday.  I can't believe I'm actually posting this outfit on my blog. This shirt is half a joke, half really really serious.

I usually try to avoid shopping at Walmart, but it's unfortunately the only store in easy walking distance of our house.  R and I walked there on Friday to grab a few groceries for the weekend when I spotted this gem of a shirt on the rack. You guys. It's a kitten, holding a rocket pop and pinwheel with fireworks in its eyes wearing an uncle sam hat.  You can't really get more patriotic than that.  And it's even made in the good ole U.S.A.  I tried to find a link to it since I know all of you will be just dying to get your hands on one, but I couldn't find it online!  I may or may not have also tied a matching hair bow on my poor cat and made her pose for a picture with me as well (on my insta here).  She was a good sport because treats were involved.

Back to reality and a super busy week tomorrow!

The Meowmaid

Hello! Just dropping in for a quick post, as I am up to here in boxes and getting things ready for our big move this weekend!

Outfit Details:
Vintage Peach Babydoll - in the shop tomorrow!
Vintage Button Boots - for sale in shop here!
Maroon Tote - Baggu via Shoemint
Meowmaid Pin - Albinohare via Etsy

Last week after seeing Ashley post a picture on instagram, I had to get my own Meowmaid pin from Albinohare on Etsy!  Half kitten, half mermaid, I really don't know what could be better.  I have not wanted to take this pin off since receiving the adorable package last week, so if you want an instant mood improver, I highly checking these little guys out here!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Kitty Helper

The neighbor's cat, the Dalai Lama, comes to visit me and meows to be let into my apartment multiple times a day.  Today he decided he wanted to visit while I was shooting some new vintage inventory for the shop, so he volunteered to help.  And by help, I mean he attacked any and all hair accessories left on the floor, attempted to topple over the tripod, and proceeded to cause general chaos.  Isn't he handsome?

Hope you guys are having a good week so far!

Black Cats

Leaves EVERYWHERE. They're all starting to slowly fall off the trees here and I am going to be sad when they're gone.  I really love what they bring to a backdrop because they make a normally bland place seem colorful and new.
Outfit Details: Skirt - c/o Persunmall // Shoes - c/o Sole Provisions // Blouse - c/o American Apparel
// Tights - Target // Sweater - Ralph Lauren (thrifted)

Anyway, I tried not to make it as obvious this time, but I couldn't resist going for the double cat prints again.  This skirt from Persunmall has the cutest cat print and the neutral color palette makes it really easily remix-able.  It's only $15.99 so I am highly considering the red version too.  I paired it with a striped sweater and my cat print blouse peaking out from underneath.  I wore this on a movie date to see Gravity in 3D this weekend, which I was pretty apprehensive of because 3D movies have made me really dizzy in the past and I've had to leave the theatre.  I am happy to report that everything was A-OK and I thought the movie was good too! We discovered that the movie theatre a few towns away has huge plush leather seats that fully recline into a laying position.  Oh yeah, and the theatre has a bar in it.  Let's just say I see many more movie dates in the near future!
Hope you're all have a great start to your week!

Double Whammy

Today you get a double whammy post! And by that I mean both my usual Friday Favorites post along with a few outfit photos too. Lucky you (ha)!  It's been hard to take outfit photos during the week because of the lack of daylight after I get off work, so I snapped these inside my apartment before work one morning.  Sorry for the slightly blurry photos and crummy lighting, but now you get to see a little peak inside my apartment, and of course, a bit of my current foster kitty Pookie too!  I thought it appropriate that she be in a few of these with be since my new blouse from Oasap has a ridiculously awesome sunglasses-wearing-cat peaking out of the pocket.
Outfit Details- Cat Blouse - c/o Oasap // Pants- Volcom via Swell.com // Hat- Vintage //

Anyway, here are a few of my favorite finds from around the internet this week!
  • I often wonder if my lifestyle would be a bit different if I didn't live in such an expensive area.  This buzzfeed article compares two 20-something women who earn similar salaries but live in different parts of the country (a small Texas town vs. Brooklyn, NY).  An interesting read!
  • If you're bored at work, I suggest you check out: 99 Life Hacks that could make your Life easier.  Alight, a lot of them are stupid, but using an empty plastic CD stack case as a bagel holder pretty much made my day.
  • This article from Carrie over at WishWishWish about getting to know the basics of your DSLR camera is really readable if you are just starting out with a new camera!
  • I love this red wine pairings flow chart from Cupcakes and Cashmere.  While I do enjoy a glass of wine, I have absolutely no clue about what wine goes well with what!
  • These Art Nouveau inspired prints of all the Game of Thrones ladies by artist Elin Jonsson are genius!
  • I love me a good before and after makeover picture (who doesn't?!) Apparently however, there is a Reddit debate (discussed here on Jezebel) about a girl's makeup transformation, and men feeling "fooled" by it. In my humble opinion, women can wear however much (or little) makeup as they so please, and those men need to get a life.
  • I always feel kind of fancy eating apples with cheese! This idea of making a cheesy Gruyere apple pie from A Beautiful Mess seems like such an interesting and delicious twist on a classic!

Caramel Cats

On some Mondays, such as today, simply sipping a cup of coffee at work isn't enough.  I am requesting my office gets a caffeine I.V. station where I can cut to the chase and insert it right into my veins.  Coffee I.Vs exist, right? Well if not, brb, patenting it.
Outfit Details: Kitty Skirt - c/o Persunmall // Black Cropped Tank - c/o Persunmall //
Blouse - c/o August Wrinkle // Sunnies - c/o Oasap // Straw Boater - Vintage //
Saddle Shoes - Deena & Ozzy (thrifted)

Monday's lethargy aside, I had a pretty good weekend. Friday night R and I headed to our favorite dive bar for some beer and games and on Saturday I went on a little vintage buying trip to get some new things for the shop.  Sunday was bittersweet, but definitely falling closer to the sweet side.  My foster cat Hamilton got adopted by a super nice young couple who came to meet him last week! I am so happy for him, but I am definitely going to miss having my three-legged buddy hop all around my apartment after me!  So, my cat-print skirt (from Persunmall) is in honor of Hammy finding a good home!
Anyway,  I will be working four really long days so R and I can road trip into the mountains on Friday for a long weekend! Cheers to the start of you work (or school) week!

Kitty Chronicles: Hammy

As promised, here are a few pictures I snapped of my foster kitty Hamilton! Isn't he handsome?!  Hamilton (or Hammy, as I tend to call him), was hit by a car a few weeks ago and was brought into my local humane society. I had just signed up to become a foster parent for kitties and was so excited when I got the email about Hammy.  Sadly, he had to get one of his back legs amputated, so they needed someone to take him for a few weeks to give him all of his medicine and give him some love and attention while he healed- and that's where I come in!

When I first got Hammy two weeks ago, you could tell he was very frightened and in a lot of pain so he would often hiss and bite if I tried to get close.  Only two weeks later, he is a little snuggler and will come sit on my lap as soon as I sit down on the floor.  He loves being picked up and put on my bed to hang out up there with me and I am so happy he has become such a sweetheart in such a short period of time!
Hamilton goes back to the shelter today to get his stitches out and go into the adoption room to hopefully get adopted as soon as possible! Everyone always asks "how can you give them up at the end?!" I grew up doing foster care for cats with my mom, and though it is always hard, you know that you helped the kitties in some way and that you wouldn't be able to take in future foster kitties if you kept them all! Anyway, just wanted to show everyone how adorable Mister Hammy is and I am going to be asked to be notified when he find his forever home (and visit him in the meantime)! So send some luck and love in his direction!
Have any of you ever volunteered at an animal shelter or adopted a pet from one?

Meow Mix

What better way to start a Friday than with an overload of cats!  I'll be honest, I have been lusting after other bloggers' kitty-ears rings for quite some time now, and I am so happy to have my own now from Oasap! I decided to go all out and wear my cat blouse underneath a vintage dress, because hey, why not?  I think I may look a bit crazy, but I guess most cat ladies are, right?
Outfit Details:
Dress: Vintage- in shop soon!
Cat Ring - c/o Oasap
Cat Blouse - c/o American Apparel
Belt & Necklace: F21
Tights: Target
Booties - MIA via DSW
So, do you guys remember how earlier this week I said that all of my images shot from last weekend got corrupted and turned completely black?  I woke up early and re-took both the outfit pictures and my shop listing pictures before work one day this week.  They uploaded just fine later that night.  Then, when I was editing them in iPhoto, I clicked to one of the black ones and it suddenly appeared! These images that you see are from the lost files. So frustrating re-doing everything and then finding out the originals ARE there, however, I like the originals better so I guess all is okay in the end.  Technology is sometimes just the worst.
Do you guys have any fun plans for the weekend?  I have a bunch of stuff to get done, but plan on going to a fun anniversary party for a local brewery too.  Today after work I am headed off to a thrift store a little ways away and can't wait to stock up on new goodies for the shop!
Happy Friday!
