R's Apartment Tour

Today I am SUPER excited to share with you a home tour of my boyfriend Rob's (the mysterious "R" I mention so often on here) apartment! I will be the first to admit that when we first went to look at the place about a year ago, I was not overly impressed with what I first saw... the previous tenants did not do much with the place.  Over the first few months of living there though, I watched the apartment transform room by room, into the amazing place I know and love today!  I asked him a few question's about his place so you guys can get to know him and his style a bit better.  Enjoy!

 

  

How would you describe your overall design style?
"Normal person" modern, with maybe a little vintage or industrial flare. I love clean lines and good design, but I don't like when a place looks too sparse, or lacks personality.

  Do you have any favorite colors you use while decorating?

White, red, and wood (is that a color?) are my main stand by's I guess. I try and follow the 80% neutral, 20% color rule.

    

How do your real life hobbies and interests reflect in your design style?

I love design, cars, and music, but I think you could have easily guessed that without me telling you. I'm web designer for a living so I love things that are designed well. I think your place should tell a story about who you are and be filled with things that inspire you. I appreciate a balance between form and function wether its my living space, a web site, the way a song was made, or the design of a car. Now that I think about it, maybe all the red has something to do with my lifelong obsession with Ferrari's...

  What are your favorite things to do while at home?

Besides general relaxing, I love sitting in my "music room" and listening to records with a beer or Manhattan.

Whats your favorite part of your home?

All of the windows and natural light. I think this is probably pretty rare in a condo. I like the mostly open layout too.

  Do you have any design sites/ places to go for inspiration that you check regularly?

I look at Apartment Therapy occasionally for inspiration. I appreciate that they show places that actually look like people live in them and weren't just made for a magazine article. 

What do you guys think? Pretty cool huh!? R and I both really like interior design and definitely have different styles, but they actually overlap quite a bit in the center so its fun bouncing ideas off of each other and sharing fun finds.  For example, the large industrial ampersand hanging on the wall of his living room... we both liked it so much that we almost battled it out for it in the aisles of Target. We are going to be getting our first place together this summer so I am really excited to see how both of our styles meld together into a place that makes both of us happy and inspired (and hey, then that ampersand will be mine too)!  If you have any questions of where anything is from, etc., just leave it in the comment section and R would be happy to answer.  I will be sharing my own apartment tour next week, so stay tuned!

Apartment Inspiration

     Hello! Just stopping in to share a bit of apartment inspiration today since I just moved to a new place.  You can find more of the pins and sources on my "Room Inspriation" board.

   This is the first time in my life I have lived without roommates, so I am pretty excited to get to do whatever I want to a place! That said, it is only a tiny one bedroom apartment, so the living room area is actually doubles as my vintage and sewing studio.  It is definitely going to take lots of creative organization! I am trying to keep a balance between form and function and living vs. working, which is hard when I just want everything to look neat and pretty already.  The basic design themes I like are white and bright with pops of color and lots of plants!  I always like keeping my place neutral for the walls, bedding, etc. because if I get tired of the decor, then I just need to change the accents and not the important basics.
   Do you guys use pinterest for home inspirations and planning?  If you have a board for this, leave a link in the comments because I would love to come take a peak!

Bedroom/ Studio Snapshots

     Last week I posted about possibly sharing a little tour of my bedroom, and since a few of you seemed to be interested, here it goes! I live in a house with two roommates and we share all the common areas such as the living room and kitchen, so my room is really the only thing I got to decorate as my own space.  This also means that my bedroom acts as my vintage studio as well.  I have an area I use for shooting listing pictures (on my "wooden" photo mat), racks of vintage lining the back wall, and a sewing desk for all of the alterations I do for the shop. Needless to say, it's sometimes hard to stay organized with all of that going on in one room!
      Anyway, it's always a work in progress, as I get antsy every few months and change things around, but this is what it looks like in its current state! Hope you like it!

Insta & Pinspiration

 Well, I was not planning to post today, but isn't that the great part about having a blog? You can post whenever you feel inspired! Right now I am inspired by fresh color palettes, coffee, and interior design. What I am not inspired by is my job, but thats alright because I can just daydream about those other things while I am here.  Anyway, this week I started the process of rearranging and redecorating my room a bit to help me feel inspired, motivated, and more organized with my vintage shop.  Since I run my shop out of my room, I wanted to give it more of a work studio feel in one part, combined with a bedroom.

 

A shot I took right when I woke up as the sun was rising through the picture window above my bed, which is one of the first places I decided to give a little room makeover too by 

adding pink peonies!

I don't have a bunch of money to spend, so I am doing most of it myself while keeping the basics the same and just changing the accent colors.  My room is currently grey and white with yellow accents.  I am keeping all the grey and white basics and then adding little pops of red, mint, and pink instead of yellow!  What colors are your bedroom? Do you get antsy and want to change things up often or is it just me!?
