Cactus Candy

This outfit was as sugary- sweet as can be.  I felt like a giant piece of candy, and I'm okay with it!

This Cactus Cartoon Dress is what dreams are made of you guys.  Not only is the print adorable, but it has pink criss crossing ribbons attaching the top and bottom into an easy breezy one piece.  One thing I will say, is that it is quite breezy... a bit shorter than what I would wear, but so it goes with these one size fits most type items.  Let's just say the birds in my back yard may have gotten an undies peek.  And also my neighbors.   Next time, there will be spandex shorts involved before taking this dress for a spin around the neighborhood.

As with any pastel outfit lately, I couldn't resist the temptation to don pink hair for the day.  You can actually see in some of these photos that the wig actually has lavender and aqua in it too!  R is terrified of it.

A Low Key 4th

Three day weekends are the best.  If every weekend was three days long I think everyone would be a lot happier! Except the people who work weekends.

This is what I wore on the fourth!  I went for a more understated red white and blue look than the screamingly patriotic kind this time around.  This new indigo and white dyed dress from Oasap was absolutely perfect for an ultra low key day of grilling (veggie for me) hot dogs, buzzed cherry pie baking, and playing ping pong.  I'll be honest, we may have had so much food and drink so early in the day that we were barely able to stay awake until it got dark.  We did catch the fireworks from across town out our window though!  

Yesterday R and I discovered that there is actually a BEACH less than a mile from our new house, something I never thought I'd say living here in Colorado.  The one thing I miss most about home in New Jersey is definitely the beach and ocean.  Even though our new find is only a reservoir, it has sand, a swimming area, and even a lifeguard, so I am one happy camper.  Now you know where you can find me on basically every summer weekend from here on out!

Patriotic Roundup

Hi guys! If you're in the grand ole USA, Happy 4th of July to you!  I didn't get my act together to actually photograph my red, white, and blue for a post today in advance, so I thought I would do a little patriotic roundup of past outfits!

  

I love how each of the photos holds a memory, as they were taken spanning back over the last three or so years of blogging! From the prairies of Colorado, to the old Victorian houses of Cape May New Jersey (middle right), to the island of Kauai, Hawaii (middle), we sure do have a beautiful country!

Hawaiian Joe Dirt

Hi guys,
   Just stopping in quickly with a super easy-going outfit I wore to the park this weekend to play frisbee.   Well we played for a good ten minutes until we realized it was 90-something degrees and then deemed "sitting under the awning drinking water" a better activity. I don't think R could actually believe I asked him to snap photos of what I was wearing as were headed out the door, as this usually wouldn't be the type of outfit I post on here.  Actually, he told me I look like a Hawaiian Joe Dirt.  Thanks R!

     Anyway, even though this is way more casual than I usually post, its what I often wear! I grew up at the beach, so often, especially during summertime, I revert to a more low key beachy style even though there's unfortunately no beach in sight here.
     This is the second baseball hat I got recently from Swell and I am of course in love with the floral print! This one is sold out now, but there are a ton of other amazing printed ones right now too, particularly in the mens section!  I think this minty toucan number or this polka dot one has to be next on my list!

Nautical Mini Vases DIY

With moving to a new house last month, I definitely have had a case of the DIY/ decorating/ nesting bug so I'm going to start sharing a few projects and recipes on here!  With a yard full of fresh blooming flowers, I realized I had nothing to put them in.  Rob had brought home a case of cute little Sessions bottled beers, so I decided to clean & save a few of the empties to hold little fresh cut flowers.  I added the white nautical rope as to give them a more finished & summery vibe!

Project Cost:
About $2 for the rope, I already had all of the other materials.

Supplies needed:
Glue gun
Glue Sticks
Recycled bottles of your choice
Rope (from craft store)

 Step 1. Put a dab of glue at the end of the rope and start rolling it into a tight circle.  Put dots of glue intermittently to hold it together while rolling.

 Step 2. Once the rope circle is approximately the size of the bottom of the bottle, attach the circle to the bottom with glue.

 Step 3.  Start wrapping the bottle with rope, making sure to intermittently put dots of glue every inch or so to hold it in place.

 Step 4.  Cut off end at the height you would like, securing the frayed end in place with extra glue.

Note: I did half of my bottles wrapped to the base of the label, and for the other two I removed the label and wrapped the rope higher.  Whatever you think looks best!

Weekend Whites

Just a super casual outfit I wore hanging out this weekend. This dress may or may not now be covered in the bright yellow kraft mac n cheese I ate while wearing it.  So it goes while wearing all white.

Two things R loves are sneakers and baseball hats.  Now that we share a closet in our new place, seeing his hat collection every day has started to give me mild envy, so I decided to get a few cute ones for myself during a big sale swell was having.  Forty percent off of items already on sale? Yes please.  I roped R and a few other friends into buying mass quantities of things too.  Sorry not sorry!

Anyway this striped hat by RVCA is a new favorite. The bill has a pretty hawaiian print and its super comfy too.  I love how throwing a baseball hat on with a dress gives an outfit an instant low key vibe. BBQs, frisbees, cocktails on the patio, and eating all meals outside - here I come!

Watermelon Mint

Just stopping in with a quick outfit from this weekend.  R snapped these for me as we were heading out the door to a bbq!

This was the most fun outfit to wear, probably ever, and its pretty much ALL vintage.  Even though its hard to wear an aloha shirt without screaming "tourist" (especially one with oversized fruit), the colors and print make me extremely happy.  I paired the vintage top with comfy high waisted mint pants from the shop and matching sunglasses from Sunglass Warehouse.  Oh, and my mom's fringed purse from the 70s!

Anyway, off to hem lots of new vintage for the shop.  Hope you're all having a lovely week!
