Cruella Deville

Hi friends!  If we are friends on facebook, you've already seen a preview of this set, which is one of my favorites in awhile!  Living in a state where there is nearly constant sunshine, one gets pretty excited when a few gloomy days roll in, as the soft lighting is such a pleasant change.

Outfit Details:
Vintage Spotted Crop Top - For sale in the shop here!
Vintage Blue Mary Janes - For sale in the shop here!
Red Sunnies - Lulu*s
Skater Skirt - Stylemint
Purse - gift

Recently I have been adding a bunch of crop tops and crop top and skirt sets to the shop, this awesome 90s dalmatian print top being one of them (hence the post title - har har)!  Most of the tops I have been finding are actually longer length, but I've just been taking up the hem to make them into cute little crop tops for summer! I love how they look with high waisted bottoms, and they're so comfy too.

I've also started to pack some things up for our move next month! We are staying in Colorado, just moving a few towns away where we can rent a nicer and bigger place for a much more affordable price than Boulder.  I will update more on that soon!  Hope you're all having a wonderful week!

Stripes & Tulips

I stumbled upon a beautiful garden while out on a morning run last week, and I'm excited to have a new place to snap pictures only a few blocks away. The bright rows of tulips are so pretty you can hardly even tell it was cold and super windy while taking these.  I am trying to really appreciate my downtown neighborhood before I move next month (though I am so excited for it!)

Outfit Details
Striped Sweater - thrifted
Jeans - Volcom
Heels - Shoemint
Necklace - c/o Oasap
Sunnies - c/o Oasap
Headband - Forever 21

I decided to keep the outfit pretty neutral since the backdrop was going to be so colorful, besides the addition of this colorful necklace.  The headband was basically just a necessity because of the powerful gusts of wind, a trick I highly recommend if you need to take outfit photos on a less than ideal day!

Have a good start to your week!

Lilikoi Dress

I have admired the label Dear Creatures from afar for quite some time, so you can imagine my delight when fellow Flock Together gal Amy offered this beautiful dress up for swap!  I got it in the mail last week and decided it would be perfect to wear for our casual brunch on Easter Sunday.  Plus, R said the print looked like the inside of a Lilikoi (or passionfruit), which somehow made me love it even more!

Outfit Details:
Dress - Dear Creatures, borrowed from Amy
Boots - Crown Vintage, via DSW
Black Cardigan - Target
Purse - Vintage Dooney & Bourke
Sunnies - gift

For brunch we ate cheesy scrambled eggs, salmon, chocolate fondue, and of course, a bloody mary!  We stopped on the way home to take these photos in front of a favorite barn of mine, which the weather thankfully held out for.  A kind samaritan even pulled over to ask us if we needed help, as he thought our car was broken down haha.

You can see how Amy styled her dress here.  How someone can look so adorable and put together in a torrential downpour is beyond me!

Good Overall

I hope everyone had a good Easter! This weekend was busy busy for me with Easter festivities and helping R find a brandy new car!  I could definitely use an extra day of doing absolutely nothing, but so it goes.

Outfit Details:
Khaki Shortalls - Vintage/ thrifted
Purse - Vintage Dooney & Bourke
Puppy Blouse - c/o Oasap
Sunnies - gift from Mom
Buckle Boots - Crown Vintage from DSW (new!)

This is the first time I have worn any sort of overalls in public after the trend started showing back up all over the place over the past year.  I actually really despise khakis in pants form, but these little 90s shortalls I thrifted I decided to take out for a spin myself.  I'm not sure they are the most flattering piece of clothing ever (umm, hello "romper butt"), but they sure are comfortable!  I originally planned to wear this to our Easter brunch, but then an adorable dress came in the mail from a Flock Together swap that I thought would be a little more Easter appropriate.

Anyway, I hope everyone has come out of their food and chocolate comas by now!

Friday Favorite Finds {Vol. 10}

A few of my favorite finds from around the internet over the past few weeks. Enjoy!

As the warm weather is (hopefully) soon approaching, I have been drawn to low key nautical inspired styled like this cute look from Steffy's Pros and Cons and this one from Kate and Stripes.  Also note Steffy's adorable new haircut, and Kate's blog is one of my new favorite reads!
This rainbow sangria from Gimme Some Oven is genius, and has me dreaming of summer porches!

Wishing these adorable shorts I ordered from Oasap actually fit me, I have so many ideas on how to style them for this in between weather!

This article on 20 of the world's most amazing hotels pretty much blew my mind.  HELLO, WANDERLUST!

I've been looking for a cute hat with a fun print for summer, and this one from Volcom and this one from Forever21 are on the forefront of my wish list.  Is anyone else loving anything to do with pineapples or is just me?

I rarely wear rings, but if I did, I would surely want to wear one from Nafsika on Etsy.  These stacking rings with the twig shaped band and gemstone are stunning!

This eye opening article on 16 children and their bedrooms from around the world is definitely worth a read.  And if you don't feel like reading, that's okay too, because its actually mostly pictures.

Last but not least, if you follow me on pinterest, you have probably been seeing a lot of action on my home inspiration boards, as R and I are moving in June and we are both a bit design-crazed!  This kitchen featured on Fresh Home is one of my current favorites!

Have a wonderful weekend and a very happy Easter if you celebrate!

What You See

I think it is pretty amusing that, through the selection and editing process, people get to choose exactly what kind of images, and thus "image",  they share with the world.  Whether it a flattering filter on instagram or a profile picture on facebook with good lightning and a slimming angle, people now more than ever get to fine tune the face they would like to present (on the internet).  Though it may seem very second nature and insignificant nowadays, I think its important to remember that it is actually quite a powerful tool that we hold in our hands!
Sometimes I am guilty of wanting to throw out a whole entire batch of photos because of extraneous circumstances, such as wind or lighting, that I think has ruined a shoot for the blog.  So was the case with this batch of photos taken on an extremely windy day the other weekend.  But then I decided it would be interesting if I shared the few images that I thought were normal and "blog-worthy", along with a few that would not normally make the cut, in order to reiterate how imperfect we all are no matter what shiny photo finish we put forward!

Anyway, here are a few of the photos from this shoot that I would typically deem salvageable to use on the blog like normal.  Here's what you see:

Oooh what a pretty vintage dress! That scenery! I wish I had a mountain road or an old barn to stand in front of to take my outfit photos! I wonder if that hat is new?

But here is what you don't see:

THE DAMN WIND! It is flipping my collar up in at least 3/4 of the set of photos and driving me nuts.  Not to mention making me flash every passerby.
Probably yelling at R. WHY didn't you tell me my collar was up around the back of my head in the first 20 shots?!
A poor attempt at a fake smile.  Or maybe I've just soiled myself.  Hard to tell.

Outfit Details:
Dress - Vintage
Sunnies - c/o American Apparel
Hat - Target
Boots - Sam & Libby via DSW

And here, my friends, is honestly what half of every outfit shoot actually looks like, especially if the weather is not cooperating. The ones that I (and most of you!) would probably never choose to share.  If I know I am going to be taking outfit photos, I usually bring a pair of nicer (read: more uncomfortable) shoes than the ones I am actually wearing in real life.  I often put on lipstick right before taking photos.  I edit out all of the photos that I think were shot at unflattering angles.  And if rushed for time and lacking posting material on weekends, I sometimes put together outfits for the SOLE PURPOSE of taking photos for the blog, which seems pretty ridiculous.

Anyway, I have been feeling a bit lackluster about posting lately, and I think it was partially stemming from the fact that sometimes all of the above things seem a bit daft and difficult to fit into every day life. Can any of you relate?

I am not going to make these outtakes a normal or every day thing, and will probably continue to only choose what I think are the BEST photos to use on the blog , but for today, I thought I would attempt a bit of honesty and humor along with an outfit.  Hope you guys are having an awesome week!
